My own interpretation of a photo given to me by a friend, experimented with backlighting and painted in adobe photoshop with the mouse.

This is from a photo my daughter gave me, of a site around the Chicago area.

I painted this with the mouse in adobe photoshop. I thought this was particularly colorful and beautiful,what do you think? Any comments would be appreciated.

This digital painting was inspired by a photo sent to me by Gary Everest.  He told me he and his wife often visit the Portland Rose Garden and snap lots of images of the nearly limitless variety of roses, including this shot of the Peace Rose.

 This digital painting was inspired by an early morning drive along Tellico Lake in early fall.  I live near, and often go fishing at this man-made reservoir, built between 1967-1976.  Unlike many projects of this type in the southeast U.S., Tellico Lake was not constructed to make electricity.

This is the portrait Gary did of me from the photo seen in my previous post.  I do believe he captured my charm, wit and gentle nature.

Gary had been after me for a number of years to send him a photo so he could do my portrait.  The photo on his easel was taken at our family reunion in September of this year.  I'll also post the portrait he did from this photo.

My student and friend, Gary Everest, lived very near this Tuscan hill town and has spoken about it so often I feel like I've been there.  This digital painting was done from one his many photos of the town.

This is one of my favorite watercolors, but I'll have to get back to you on the year I painted it.  I only had a single persimmon for a "model", so I changed its position to paint the others.

"Self-Portrait", November, 1998

This was painted alla prima in about a two-hour span while I was visiting Gary Everest.  He and his wife, Michele lived in east Tennessee for a few years following their return from Italy.  We were introduced by Mr. Jim Reynolds, a local Realtor who had worked with both of us.  Toward the end of Garys first visit to my home, he rather sheepishly asked if I would consider taking him on as a student.  To paraphrase the film, "Casablanca", it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.  I've seldom seen anyone as doggedly determined to learn and improve.  He still has this painting and it's my fondest hope that it is a gift worthy of the spectacular Italian repast Michele prepared that day.

This is a charcoal work, done in 1969.  I was wearing a borrowed beret and was feeling like a "real artist" that day.  All kidding aside, I am quite proud of this piece.

This digital painting was done from a watercolor I did of the same cabin in the Sierra Mountains.  Though I like both works, I'm partial to the watercolor because of the amount of work that went into it, as well as, (if I do say so, myself) the effective treatment of light and shadow in the woods.
